FAR, FAR, AWAY
December 20, 2015
Far, Far, Away was painted for clients who already have some of my paintings in their stunning Yorkshire home. They have recently bought a London flat and after choosing ‘Blooming Blossom’ for their bedroom they decided that they also particularly liked one of my small square abstract works entitled ‘Soft, Soft, Soft’. They commissioned me to paint a 5′ x 4′ copy with more muted colours and altering the dripping effect of the paint on the bottom half, preferring it more blended than running.
I called the painting Far, Far, Away as it seemed to suit on many levels but particularly because London is a good distance from Yorkshire, God’s own country! This lush rural landscape contrasts sharply with the busy bustle and excitement of the city of London which I also love. The painting is wistful and dreamy reminiscent of soft fluttering petals and leaves and pink clouds on the breeze, of the big skies and hills and comparative emptiness of Yorkshire. This is a gentle painting, one in which to dream and lose oneself, stimulating memories and the imagination.
